Annie Leibovitz,

San Francisco’s exhibition and gallery culture landed two coveted, and globally in demand, exhibits from Annie Leibovitz and Oscar de la Renta this Spring. And both will have you visit two classic city landmarks to explore.

This story is brought to us by San Francisco-based Ronnie D’Amico, ManAboutWorld’s latest global correspondents. (Below)Ronnie D'Amico, ManAboutWorld correspondent

WOMEN: New Portraits by Annie Leibovitz

Found in a repurposed hanger in the Presidio, WOMEN: New Portraits by Annie Leibovitz, is a continuation of her 1999 series of famous photographs known as “Women” that Leibovitz started more than 15 years ago which documented real women of all backgrounds and levels of power. Many of the three dozen new portraits have never been displayed before and offer intimate stills of Gloria Steinem, U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren, Jane Goodall, Alice Waters, Sheryl Sandberg and more.

It makes sense for Annie to choose San Francisco as one of the 10 exhibiting cities for this traveling show. Annie attended the San Francisco Art Institute where she took her first photography class, and, in November 2015, she received a Contemporary Vision Award from the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

If you’ll miss the San Francisco exhibits, you have a chance to see it when it moves to Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Istanbul, Frankfurt, New York and Zurich.

Exhibition Dates & Hours:
March 25 – April 17, 2016

Saturday-Thursday: 10am–6pm (Last admission at 5pm)
Friday: 10am–8pm (Last admission at 7pm)

Cost: Free; Advance booking highly recommended.

Location: The Presidio’s Crissy Field, 649 Old Mason Street, San Francisco, CA 94129

Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta The Retrospective

Who better than André Leon Talley, former American editor-at-large for Vogue magazine, to curate an Oscar de la Renta Retrospective? San Francisco’s de Young Museum, located in Golden Gate Park, was chosen as the world premiere site for the exhibit that includes more than 130 pieces, from over five decades; a joint collaboration with the house of de la Renta and the late designer’s family.

The Retrospective is themed and grouped by creative stages and his evolution with his earliest work for Balenciaga in Madrid to Lanvin in Paris, and then Jane Derby in New York that eventually became de la Renta’s.

There isn’t a shortage of celebrity red carpet pieces either. You’ll find Rhianna, Amy Adams, Nicki Minaj, Jessica Chastain and Taylor Swift.
